When we left Ketchikan, these eagles saw us off. Ketchikan is thick with bald eagles - the big raptors perch everywhere, serenading us with their chirpy calls.

We cruised today to Misty Fjords National Monument, and we can report that it is indeed misty and full of fjords.

The entire boat trip today was misty, in fact, and mostly quiet. We didn’t see any other pleasure craft, just an occasional tour boat rushing from one scenic wonder to another. Now that we have embraced the slow-boat way of life, I might be a teensy bit righteous about the noisy planing boats that hurry through the area, disturbing the wildlife (and us) and missing out on the serenity of this remote area. Today we saw a planing boat tear past us at 30 mph, then veer off to circle a pod of porpoises (still at 30 mph), then peel back onto its original course until they saw another pod, then tear off again to see them.
On the way through Behm Canal, we passed a landmark island that begged to be photographed over and over again, and I kindly obliged. I have pared down the photos of New Eddystone Rock (what kind of name is that?) as best I can, but I’m afraid it’s probably still more than you want to see. Oh well.

When we got to Punchbowl Cove, there were no other boats there. Yay! Punchbowl Cove is reportedly the busiest location in Misty Fjords, so it feels like a coup. And indeed, since mooring to the forest service buoy here, we’ve seen several commercial boats and a float plane come through. Eavesdropping on the local commercial operators talking on the VHF radio, it sounds like we will also have a mini cruise ship anchoring with us in the bay tonight.

The weather forecast calls for sunshine for the next few days, maybe even temperatures in the 70s - I’m so excited! Misty is nice, but so is sunny :)
