Day 105: Princess Louisa Inlet to Smuggler’s Cove

Laurel

We were the only ones up this morning when we left for Malibu Rapids. It was magical to feel a little bit like we had this busy place to ourselves on such a still, clear morning.

We didn’t have to wait for anyone today at the Malibu Rapids

As we made our way back down Princess Royal Reach, the sun slowly came over the mountains and lit up the fiord with a warm morning light. What a treat!

We saw the heli-loggers working again at Moorsham Bluff. This time there was a tug pulling a log boom when we went past, and we saw a worker in with the logs, presumably knocking off branches.

The rest of the trip to Smuggler’s Cove Marine Park was uneventful. We found a spot at the back of the Cove to try to get away from the crowds a little. We are close to Vancouver now, so lots of people come to scenic coves like these on a hot, sunny day.

After lunch we took a spin around the cove to check it out and cool off a little. Ryan drove while I reclined in the bow of the dinghy, drinking a refreshing seltzer water. There were lots of families swimming and playing on the rocks.

The rest of the afternoon we just sat in the sun reading, listening to music, and snoozing. The sunset this evening was beautiful, so we took the dinghy out to the mouth of the cove to watch the evening colors over Malaspina Strait.
