Our friend Mike from Anchorage arrived at midday. We had spent the morning fueling up, getting the boat ready, and picking up last minute supplies, so when Mike made it to Eliason Harbor we were ready to cast off and return to the wilds.
Mike doesn’t have his forest service cabin until tomorrow, so we took the boat over to Leesoffskaia Bay. Since it’s really close to Sitka, I had low expectations; but Leesoffskaia Bay is surprising wild and beautiful, and we are the only boat here.

Ryan and Mike took the dinghy and trolled for salmon, but caught only a small rockfish. I’m sure it didn’t help that a gillnetter was fishing with his net across the entrance to the bay.
After dinner I took the dinghy out and found a small black-tail deer along the shore, grazing on trees and grass. It didn’t seem as skittish as I would expect for a delicious prey-animal on a bear-infested island like Baranof: I was able to take the dinghy very close without spooking it.

Though pictures don’t show it, it’s been very wet today. Thanksfully, the forecast is better for the next couple days, so we should have some comfortable and scenic boating in store tomorrow!
