Day 41: Red Bluff Bay

Laurel

This morning had another minus tide, nearly -4 ft, and one of our neighbors here in Red Bluff Bay discovered that they had anchored too shallow. Oops! Luckily, the boat only had mud under it and didn’t have a keel, so he just had to wait for the rising tide to refloat the boat and find a new anchorage.

Nothing you can do but visit with your mates and wait for the tide to rise

As you can see, the sun did come out today. Hallelujah! We took the dinghy out again this afternoon at high tide, hoping to see yesterday’s brown bears. I brought the long lens this time. We went as far as we could up into the delta, but sadly, the bears were nowhere to be seen. Oh well, it’s still fun to explore the coastline of the bay and we visited the big waterfall that we look out at from our Anchorage.

It’s hard to believe these tall, snow-covered mountains are all on an island (Baranof Island).

That’s our boat below and above is one of three C Dorys that are anchored here. At least one of the C Dorys is from Skagway and they’re all traveling together (along with a Ranger Tug). The guys captaining them are very social, flitting between their boats all day.

We are heading north again tomorrow, so this will be my last post for a while, until we can get some marina wifi. Thanks for reading about our adventures!
