Day 17: Khutze Inlet to Bishop Bay

Laurel

We had a pretty morning for our trip to Bishop Bay.

Unfortunately, the weather didn’t last. The sun shone for the first few hours after we arrived at Bishop Bay, but by early afternoon it was cool and blustery. Luckily, Bishop Bay is home to more thermal hot pools, so we were able to warm ourselves up! The bay is actually a provincial park, so it was quite civilized with a small dock, mooring buoys, and boardwalks to the pools in one directions, and camping platforms in the other. Also, the tallest outhouse we’ve ever seen. Lots of little fish swam under the dock, and the kids were fishing for them with great success. I’m not sure how tasty they will be, but the kids had a blast.

It wasn’t quite as natural and intimate as Eucott Hot Springs, but it was still nice. Lots of boats came and went throughout the day, and we met quite a few people from Kitimat and nearby islands; we were the only non-locals. We’ve had a couple dips since arriving. For the first bath at midday we brought shampoo and used the lower, outside pool to wash our hair. What a pleasure to have clean hair again! This evening we just relaxed in the hotter inside pool. If we have the energy, we’ll warm up with one last bath in the morning before moving on. Only a few more days in Canada before we cross over into Alaska.
