Day 19: Lowe Inlet to Pillsbury Cove

Laurel

This is going to be a short post today, since we didn’t do much but travel today. Our cunning plan to take advantage of currents in Grenville Channel kind of worked - we got a push during the first part of the day, but the last part of the trip through the channel was pretty neutral. Oh well, better than fighting the current the whole way. With seas delightfully calm, we went all the way to the delicious-sounding Pillsbury Cove across from Prince Rupert.

A misty, calm morning on Grenville Channel

We only made one stop along our journey today, a quick detour into Baker Inlet. We had wanted to anchor there the previous night, but it was a bit far to go, especially with the opposing current in Grenville Channel. The entrance to Baker Inlet is Watts Narrows, a tight little passage that can develop a fast current between tides, but we transited the narrows during the high water slack. Baker Inlet was mirror calm and looked like a nice place to overnight, so maybe we’ll stop there on the way back south.

We also stopped at Prince Rupert for some diesel and water right before Pillsbury Cove. Tomorrow we will actually stay in Prince Rupert, at Cow Bay Marina, to do some chores before crossing the Dixon Entrance and proceeding to Alaska on Thursday.
