Day 3: Butchart Cove to Deep Bay

Laurel

Happy Mother’s Day! To celebrate, Ryan and I spent the morning wandering the verdant paths of Victoria’s Butchart Gardens. So many tulips! I took a zillion pictures, but I will only post a few.

Holy tulips, Batman!

We didn’t leave Butchart Cove until shortly before noon. Fortunately the wind hadn’t picked up, and we were able to make a smooth run north to Tribune Cove. Now I’m enjoying a glass of wine while I write this blog post and wait for Ryan to make dinner. Hurray for our StarLink (I keep wanting to call it SkyNet) satellite dish, which makes posting in the middle of nowhere possible! Tomorrow we will head across the Strait of Georgia and start exploring Desolation Sound.

The currents of Dodd Passage were swirly, but not a challenge in our zippy little Adventure.

Happy hour in Tribune Bay

UPDATE: The calm seas you see in the happy hour picture above didn’t last long. Rollers started pushing in from the south, so after Ryan’s wine slid across the table and almost spilled at the dinner table (horrors!) we pulled up anchor and moved to Deep Bay, where we could get a reciprocal berth at the yacht club there. We had a very peaceful night, and with access to fresh water to top up the tank, we were even able to have showers!
