Day 95: Pruth Bay to Millbrook Cove

Laurel

Updated: Aug 10, 2022

Another sunny day! Hurray! Because tomorrow looked like the best day to cross Cape Caution, we reluctantly left Pruth Bay to position ourselves for an efficient transit of the roughest section of ocean we have to cross. The trip across Fitzhugh Sound and around Kelp Head was not super smooth, but we only had to resort to planing for about half an hour over the roughest patch in the shallower waters off Kelp Head. Despite the less than calm waters, we saw lots of people fishing in small boats around Rivers Inlet. Also, lots of whales. I hadn’t realized until this trip that you can use whales to help you figure out where the fish are!

Millbrook Cove is a great spot to wait for your moment to cross Cape Caution. It’s protected on all sides and there’s room for quite a few boats. We have three neighbors tonight, one of which was also with us last night in Pruth Bay. I had a nice long visit with them not long after we anchored, and they came over later for a tour of the boat and a little happy hour. It’s nice to talk to new people!

I didn’t take any good scenic photos today, but here’s a picture of today’s lunch cooking on the BBQ, right next to the shrimp pot puller that helped us collect the shrimp topping.
